Agelyss products are made with patented and clinically studied active ingredients in order to guarantee the best results. With each product that we sell, we want you to know what’s in our products and how they will work for you. While we try to keep things simple on the product pages, this blog post is for those who want a deeper understanding of our spotlight ingredients. Today’s focus is Pentavitin.

What is Pentavitin®?

Pentavitin by DSM (1) is a carbohydrate complex that is completely plant-derived and preservative-free. It binds to amino acids in the top layer of the skin to help lock in moisture. Because it binds to the proteins in the skin, Pentavitin does not wash off or become less effective when exposed to water.

This powerful moisturizer provides deep hydration to the skin, improving any flakiness or itchiness. It acts instantly to strengthen the skin barrier for moisture retention, thus providing smoother, healthier-looking skin. Pentavitin provides at least 24 hours and up to 72 hours of hydration.

Clinical Trials On Pentavitin®

Study #1

This clinical study measured moisture on the stratum corneum, which is the outermost layer of the skin. According to this Moisture Accumulation Test, a lower number indicates better hydration inside the skin. The blue line in the graph above represents the effects of Pentavitin on surface moisture. As you can see, the moisture accumulation was significantly lower when Pentavitin was applied, compared to when glycerin (red) or nothing (yellow) was applied, meaning that Pentavitin helped retain the moisture..

Study #2

In this study, moisture regulation was measured in varying humidity levels and at a temperature of 37 degrees Celsius (98.6), which is the average body temperature. The vertical axis measures how much moisture was lost while the horizontal axis measures the humidity. Moisture loss after the application of Pentavitin was lower across all humidity levels when compared to after the application of glycerin (gray), urea (red), or nothing (yellow).

Study #3

This graph shows how much Pentavitin increased hydration when compared to glycerin, another popular moisturizing ingredient. Pentavitin, which is represented by the blue bars, increased moisturization by up to 43% more than glycerin (red) when the skin was dry and up to 42% more when skin was normal.

Study #4

To understand study #4, we need a brief introduction to lactic acid. Simply put, lactic acid is an exfoliant that helps remove dead cells from the outer layers of the skin and also moisturizes. When the skin is unaccustomed to lactic acid, redness and irritation can occur.

This clinical study demonstrates the effects of Pentavitin on reducing the stinging caused by exfoliants such as lactic acid. The vertical axis represents the level of stinging while the horizontal axis represents days. The results clearly demonstrate that the use of Pentavitin (the blue line) leads to a significant decline in stinging when compared to the use of a placebo (the yellow line).

How To Get The Most Out Of Pentavitin®

To maximize the anti-aging effects of Pentavitin, Agelyss pairs it with 4 other patented active ingredients in our Hydrating Moisturizer. Combined with Glucare® S 2% for improving skin renewal, Stay-C® 50 for fighting free radicals, Trylagen® PCB for increasing collagen production, and Argireline® NP for the prevention of wrinkles, the Pentavitin® in Agelyss Hydrating Moisturizer helps your skin to look and feel its best. Even if the scientific studies don’t speak to you, the results will.
